Axel Gon Medaille studied Chemistry & Chemical Engineering at the School of Chemistry and Physics Electronics of Lyon (Lyon, France). In 2018, he joined Airbus Defence & Space (Munich, Germany), as an intern, working on corrosion of metallic materials and anti-corrosion coatings. In 2019, he enrolled at the University of Helsinki (Helsinki, Finland), as part of an Erasmus exchange, to deepen his knowledge in materials science and materials characterization as well as in solid-state physics. Afterwards, he returned to Airbus Defence and Space, to perform his master thesis. He was conducting research on the qualification of chemical conversion coating products for the corrosion protection of aluminum alloys in accordance with the REACh (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) regulation. In 2020, he joined the Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC) to do his Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering in the frame of SENSATE ERC-CoG project.
