Prof. Edgardo Saucedo and Dr. Yuancai Gong have visited Prof. Qingbo Meng’s group from the Solar Energy Materials and Devices Group of Renewable Energy Laboratory from the Chinese Academy of Sciences

Prof. Edgardo Saucedo and Dr. Yuancai Gong have been invited to visit the facilities and labs from the Solar Energy Materials and Devices Group of Renewable Energy Laboratory, led by Prof. Qingbo Meng, in the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Beijing, China).

Prof. Meng’s group currently holds the world record efficiency of kesterite solar cells (Cu2ZnSnSe4), one of the most promising chalcogenide-based technologies for photovoltaic applications, due to their efficiencies above 15%, earth-abundant and low-toxic composition, and potential for implementation into advanced applications like Indoor-PV or tandem solar cells. Prof. Meng’s facilities possess advanced synthesis and characterization equipment, allowing the development pf highly efficient, reproducible and scalable devices, also including mini-module prototypes. Furthermore, they also have experience in perovskite and quantum dot solar cells, photocatalytic water splitting, and colloidal photonic crystals.

The visit was very interesting from a scientific perspective, involving the opportunity to share common ideas, concerns, and future perspectives towards the advancement of chalcogenide-based solar cells and devices.

In their free time, Prof. Saucedo and Dr. Gong visited the beautiful UNESCO-heritage gardens of Beijing (Qing dynasty’s Summer Palace), worldwide renowned for their delicate landscapes, scenic pavilions, and lush greenery.
